LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum Review #LeapFrogMomSquad

LeapFrog is a brand that is very big in our home. It’s my favorite educational toy line to date and we have purchased many, many LeapFrog toys in the last several years. When I was chosen to be a part of the LeapFrog Mom Squad, I was extremely excited and if you come here often you’ve probably seen some of my other posts on LeapFrog toys.

My boys are all teenagers now, so naturally they have more advanced technology in the ways of video games, laptops, tablets, smart phones, etc. That sometimes poses a problem when it comes to my daughter who just turned 5. She sees them with their electronics and she wants to play with them. I however am not ready for her to be using such things, and that’s where LeapFrog comes in. I was really excited when we got our LeapFrog Mom Squad welcome pack because it included the LeapPad Platinum, 3 sets of Imagicards, and also the LeapFrog Word Whammer.

We have all of the past LeapPads, and I have to say that I was very impressed with the LeapPad Platinum. Not only is it bigger, but it just has a more “grown” look to it that my daughter really likes. The Platinum is the latest of the LeapFrog tablets that is geared towards children from 3-9! If you’ve owned the previous ones, you will definitely notice a difference in this one. It has some amazing features including:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Fast and powerful processor
  • Camera (including front faced) and Video recorder
  • Music Player
  • Enhanced Parent Controls
  • Kid-Safe Web browser
  • Attached stylus – this is attached at the bottom which makes it easy to use for both right hand as well as left!!!
  • Shatterproof Screen and wrap around bumper
  • 8GB of memory
  • 7″ Hi-Res and Multi-Touch Capacitive Screen

This tablet is built for our rough and tough kids, no doubt. Kynlea is fairly careful with her things, but she has dropped this a couple of times, and it’s been fine. She has had this tablet for about 5 or 6 weeks now and has played it almost daily. She plays during the day, while we’re outside on our swing, before bed she enjoys reading her e-books on it, and it’s awesome for road trips and play dates. Her bff has already let her Momma know she wants one in purple for Christmas.

The LeapFrog LeapPad Platinum offers a huge learning library of 1,000+ games all designed or approved by LeapFrog educators and featuring Just For Me Learning Technology. This tablet allows curricular progress memory to help grow with the child’s learning level. We have downloaded a couple of games as well as purchased another cartridge from Walmart and it just provides hours of fun.  When you purchase the LeapPad Platinum, it comes with 6 Imagicards that allow your child to unlock more learning games.

The Imagicards are another new item from the LeapFrog brand and they are really fun and exciting. We received 3 sets, and each set includes some of our favorite characters from the LeapFrog characters to Paw Patrol Pups and even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I love that each of these comes in their very own tin can to keep up with them easier. Each set focuses on different teaching themes whether they be numbers and letters, counting and math, and so on. The camera on the Platinum brings these cards to life and once you activate the pin number on the card set, it unlocks games you can play with each set of cards. I’m really, really digging these!

Word Whammer – I wasn’t sure if my daughter would play with this or not since it’s a really simple toy, but I was surprised to see how much she is really enjoying it. She has been using it to learn more letters on sight and it also helps her start putting little words together. This a great new toy for kids around 4-6.  It helps them get ready for kindergarten by getting them to recognize their letters and then use those letters to create 100+ words.  It’s a simple spin, tap, twist type toy and my daughter loves to “slam” it when she’s mixing and matching letters to make words.  There are 5 learning levels in 3 games that auto-adjust the learning to your child’s skill level for just the right challenge.  She really gets a kick out of getting tickets for her accomplishments. This would be a great educational toy for pre-k and even Kindergarten kiddos.

If you’re looking for items to put on that Christmas gift list this year and you like a good educational toy that will get it’s use…….I would highly recommend looking into both the LeapPad Platinum and Imagicards, as well as the Word Whammer. These are going to be a big hit this year!  You can purchase all of these items on LeapFrog.com and right now you can even purchase the Purple LeapPad Platinum on Amazon on sale for $100.74.
