Being a work from home, single mom of 4 there are times that my house cleaning gets thrown to the wayside. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not nasty, but sometimes the mess starts to get a little out of hand for my taste. When my boys were younger, I worked out of the home and it was worse because I didn’t have a spouse to help with the housecleaning……he thought it was women’s work! My thought on that…NOT SO MUCH! I rarely enlisted my boys to help with chores, mainly because I’m a little of a control freak and like it done RIGHT! However, as they’ve gotten older, I realized something…….I want my kids to be good husbands when they grow up. The world is a lot different these days than when I was a child. I remember my Grandma took care of everything around the house from cooking to cleaning. She never worked, and never even had a drivers license. Things are definitely different now days! I firmly believe that there is nothing wrong with a man stepping in occasionally to help with housework. MEN….hear me out on this, your wives so appreciate the gesture, and you get brownie points!
What I’ve learned with house cleaning, is that it is much easier to maintain a clean house than it is to clean a dirty one. So that became my goal, and with a few tricks, tips, and threats, I was able to get my kids on the same page as me. It’s really not too difficult, and my kids actually enjoy the time together, it allows them to tell me what’s going on in school, or in their lives, and about their future plans.
During this season when it seems all of the germs are being spread and flu is going around or the stomach bug, I have my favorite cleaning products handy at all times. Clorox Bleach is a must have in my home as it can be used to do laundry and also surface cleaning to help kill germs, cold and flu viruses. Since a lot of germs are carried in on the bottoms of our shoes, or on the paws of my fur baby, I love using Pine Sol to clean my floors. If I’m mopping, I will make a bucket with water Pine Sol mix, but I also keep a mix in a spray bottle for spot cleaning. I picked up the Clorox Bleach, Pine Sol Lavender Clean, and the Clorox Disinfectant Wipes in Fresh Lavender scent in the cleaning aisle at Walmart last week. These 3 items work amazing together to clean, deodorize, and aromatize your home quick and easy. Don’t forget for these yucky, germy seasons that both Clorox Bleach and Clorox Disinfectant wipes kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria!
Here are some other ways to help make house cleaning easier:
- Make a plan…..Grab a piece of paper and write down all the things that need cleaning in every part of the house. Some things need to be done daily, while others can be done weekly.
- Assign those chores to the family and if you choose to reward with an allowance, be sure to make it clear what each chore is worth……allowances or incentives work great with my kids.
- Establish a designated 15-30 minutes during the day to knock those chores out. Turn off the tv, turn up the music and get it done. Kids are more likely to help if everyone is participating, and there’s some fun music to listen to during the process.
- Print out the cleaning schedule and hang it on your fridge. This makes it very clear as to who is supposed to do what on which day so there’s no arguing.
- Clean in layers….clean the areas that need to be clean, then deodorize those areas wit Clorox Fresh Lavender to leave your house smelling clean and relaxing.
Use the Clean.Deodorize.Aromatize technique for house cleaning and grab these featured cleaning products in the cleaning aisle of your local Walmart.
